MP Sakeer from Araecode of Malapuram district started taking football seriously at the age of 15. He played for Pandalam, Araecode and Araecode Town Team during his early days as a footballer.
He then joined Oriental High School for studies where he continued playing football too. From there he went to Markanad Higher Secondary School and then to MES College, Mampad. Sakeer is now a first year B.com Student at the MES, College.
Sakeer joined State Bank of Travancore (SBT) team in 2007 and performed well for the Kerala team. Viva Kerala acquired this talented Midfielder from SBT last season.
MP Sakeer has represented Kerala in the Under 21 level and played in the Federation Cup for SBT. Sakeer played a major role in Viva Kerala’s impressive performance in I-League Second Division and earned them a place in Top Division football for next season.
Sakeer is playing his first Santosh Trophy this year and he thinks that he is completely focussed on winning the coveted trophy for Kerala team. He says that the team will give it a go and try to win matches at all costs.
He says that Kerala team has a lot to improve and hopes to beat Maharashtra that has 5 Indian Internationals in their ranks in Pre-Quarter Final.
He also said that he will most probably be seen in Viva Kerala colours for next season and hopes to keep the team in I-League for a long time.
Sakeer says that it was his parents’ dream to see him become a good footballer. Unfortunately for him, both his parents are no more. Sakeer has 3 brothers namely Mohammed Unni, Ashraf and Aboobaker. Mohammed has played for Kerala U21 while Ashraf represented Kozhikode district team.
