Sameel flying to Arsenal
P Sameel – 15 year old from Malapuram – is all set to become the first foootballer from Kerala to be trained at the country of the Premier League – England.
Sameel, a 10th grade student of MSP School, Malapuram will fly to play in the Soccer Tournament conducted by the Arsenal Football Club at London. The boy performed very well in the ‘Tata Tea-Arsenal Jaago Re! Soccer Stars’ and was selected one among the 16 Indians who get this chance of a life time.
Sameel draw the eyes of the selectors in the first stage matches of the campaign held at the Corperation Stadium, Kozhikode. So, he was chosen to attend an 8-day Arsenal Camp which was held at Kolkatta. The 2 coaches from Arsenal were impressed enough by the Centre Half’s performance and he was included in the squad of 16.
Sameel will fly to London next month. If he cam impress the selectors at England too, the boy’s education and training expenses will be sponsored by Arsenal FC.
P Sameel is the son of Hajiarpally Poozhithara Abu and Nasi. Sameel’s talent was spotted in a Youth Developement Project Summer Camp 2005 held at the Malapuram district when he was in the 6th grade. Sameel was a member of the State Sub Junior team for National Championships held at Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 2007 and Goa in 2008. He is also the defender of the Kerala U-16 team for the past 3 years. Sameel’s elder brother Muhammed Shameem is a player of MES College, Mampad.
