State Club Football: Golden Threads in quarterfinals
Golden Threads Ernakulam got past Kannur Police with ease to get into quarter finals of the 34th Kerala State Club Football Championship for Jos Alukka & Sons Jewellers trophy in a 5 goal to none affair at Thrissur Corporation Stadium.
Golden Threads featuring two African players Harisson at the back and Onome in middle were unmatched by the District Police team from Kannur. Kerala State camper Ajit Fermin also joined the squad on loan from Viva Kerala and the midfielder too had a great day.
Police team was a mix of experience in back and youth upfront. Sanjay opened the scoring in the second minute of the game for Golden Threads from a square ball of Ashbhai. Police was not sitting back as they tried to equalise.
Striker Rameshan who was impressive throughout the match had the best chance for Police to equalise. In the 22nd minute, he was provided with a good cross from the right which he chested down and shot first time but the ball flew over the target by a few inches.
In the 26th minute, Sanjay produced the best goal of the tournament when he produced a bicycle volley to get it into left corner of the post.
Onome added to the miseries when he planted a low drive past Police keeper 5 minutes before half time to take the score to 3-0.
Golden threads produced some fast passing game and sealed off the game with another two goals in the next half. Ashbhai scoring in the 57th minute and defender Harrison finishing after a fabulous run through the wing at the death.
