Kannur, Kozhikode and Thrissur register wins
In the opening match of the Kerala State U-14 Football Championship, Kannur overcame Thiruvananthapuram in a tightly contested match at the Government High School Ground, Panampally Nagar, Ernakulam on Saturday.
Shahasad (22’ & 27’), Ashwin VK (32’), and Varun (35’) found their names on the score sheet for Kannur, while Rohit (4’), Akhil (10’) and Rahul (48’) netted in for Trivandrum. Kannur will now meet defending champions Malappuram in the quarterfinal match on Sunday.
In the other first round matches, Kozhikode defeated Idukki and Thrissur overcame Kollam with 3-0 margins while Pathanamthitta scored a 4-1 victory over Alappuzha. PE Jithu struck twice for Thrissur while MH Harish was the star for Pathanamthitta in their win.
