Kerala State U-14 Football: Malappuram to meet Wayanad in final

December 9th, 2009 Section: Kerala Team

Mohammed Sajil struck twice within the space of five minutes as defending champion Malappuram blanked Kozhikode 3-0 and entered the final of the Kerala State under-14 inter-District football championship at the Government High School Ground, Panampilly Nagar, on Tuesday evening.

Sajil’s goals, first after a wily run through the left flank in the 28th minute and the next, with a smart volley that sent the goalkeeper the other way in the 32nd minute, caught the Kozhikode team by surprise.

The hour-long game was expected to be close but the two goals, which came in quick succession, rattled Kozhikode and all their plans went haywire.

Asil made it 3-0 for Malappuram a minute before the final whistle.

Malappuram will clash with Wayanad in the final on Thursday evening. Waynad defeated host Ernakulam, last year’s runner-up, 1-0 with Mohammed Hashique scoring the match-winner in the 13th minute.
