Viva Kerala makes some changes
In an effort to produce better results and change their fortune in the second leg of I-league, Viva Kerala has made some changes to their squad. Two new players have been recruited while some key players have left the squad. The team may also miss services of Bimal Birua and Sumit Thapa
Bimal Birua, who joined Viva from New Delhi Heroes, and Sumit Thapa, who was signed from HAL at the beginning of this season, may leave the club as they are tipped to have offers from the Indian Railways.
With the salary crisis making headlines, Viva was reported to punish PIO Patrick Sisupalan. Patrick hadn’t turn up for the practice sessions since I-league which made the club question his commitments. There were rumours that the Brit may even be released from the squad. But the issue was solved behind closed doors with no damage done.
The Thailand striker Wisut Bunpeng was mysteriously sent back following his injury. The player was induced into the squad to fill the void left by injured junior India striker CS Sabeeth. Reports suggest that he was carrying an injury when he joined the team. Viva hadn’t conducted a proper medical test or trials for Wisut. The hamstring injury got aggravated and he was taken off halfway through their last match against Dempo. Viva will benefit after releasing Wisut as it would lessen the financially burden since his salary was rumored around INR 1.5 lakh.
First team regular VV Surjith and captain MP Sakeer signed for KSEB, but the Board has agreed to release the players to play for I-league with Viva Kerala. Both these players also donned the club jersey when they lifted Navy Cup last month.
In the meanwhile, Viva signed mid-fielders Nishad KP from Bengal Mumbai FC (BMFC) and Ahmed Malik from Malabar United after a week long trial. While both featured extensively in Viva’s victorious Navy Cup campaign, Nishad was in good form and managed to score for the Neelappada.
Viva play East Bengal in their opening 2009 Federation Cup match on 22nd December 2009. JCT and Salgaocar are the other teams in the same group.

There are lots of fantastic strikers in Kerala like Asif Saheer, Abdul Hakeem of SBT, Anil Kumar of KSEB, Zubair of Chandni FC, Ebin Rose of Titanium. I think if Viva Kerala need to survive in the I-League they surely will have to take atleast some players from the list above for loan. I really hope that they will make use of the transfer market by taking them on loan. It will also be good for the players to get a chance to get selected for the Indian national camp. I hope Viva Management will view this comment or somebody will atleast persuade them.
