Manorama Gold Cup 2010: Josco FC edges past Navy
A Stephen Lijo goal late in the first half was enough to secure victory for Josco FC over the Indian Navy in the last Group A match of the Malayala Manorama Gold Cup 2010 held at Seethi Haji Floodlit Stadium, Edavanna.
The Navy had several chances to level the score in both the halves of the game, but Josco held on to their slender lead with some solid performances from their defenders. Josco’s goal keeper Shijil Varughese also had a remarkable match as he saved a few shots which were destined for the back of the net.
Indian Navy’s Shaji D’silva could have had an hat trick to his name, but could not do enough to put the ball past the Josco custodian at least once. The match was of no importance as both the teams had already knocked out of the tournament with SBT qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
The Group B matches will get underway on Sunday with the match between locals MES College, Mampad and Chandni FC Calicut.
