E.K.Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup: Viva Kerala – Mohammedan Sporting Share points
Mohammedan Sporting held Viva Kerala to a 2-2 draw in the opener of the E.K.Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup played at the Municipal Jawahar Stadium, Kannur here on Sunday.
Viva Kerala were off to a dream start scoring two goals at the half an hour mark with their striker Shibinlal finding the back of the net twice. Viva drew their first blood in the 22nd minute when he headed in Sirajuddeen’s cross to put his side in front. He then doubled Viva’s lead in the 34th minute lobbing the ball intelligently over the Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper’s head.
Mohammedan were not to throw in the towel and put up a superb show in the second half to bring the match on level terms. Sasthi Duley decreased the deficit in the 52nd minute heading in Eduardo’s free-kick and ten minutes later Sovan Chakroborty netted in the equaliser to silence the home crowd.
