The Kerala under-16 team will play their first match in the Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy 2010 – the sub junior national football championship on 22nd October against Pondicherry at the Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
Kerala who had a disappointing outing last year in the tournament which was held at Maharashtra, were unable to advance from their group. This time, they are grouped in the South Zone which also features Pondicherry, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The 20 member squad was selected from the training camp which was being held at Ernakulam last week. The team will continue their training there before heading for Madhya Pradesh.
After their opening match against Pondicherry, Kerala will face Karnatak and Andhra Pradesh on OCtober 25 and 28 respectively. Their final group match will be against Tamil Nadu on October 31.
The Kerala sub juniors will be coached by Ahamed Nishad for the 2010 championship. He is from Malappuram. The team will be captained by defender Sravan Kumar from Thrissur.
