Chirag lifts their maiden Durand Cup

Chirag United overcame JCT  by a solitary goal to lift the first  Durand Cup title in the club’s history at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.

The late winning goal was scored by Mohammed Rafique in the 76th minute of the game. Kerala player and Chirag United’s captain Denson Devdas played an important role in his team’s Durand Cup triumph.

It was Denson who played an accurate long ball to the advancing Josimar da Silva. Josimar went past a JCT defender and delivered a perfect ball to Rafique who just had to guide the ball into the net.

Chirag United dominated most of the match and tested the JCT defense from time to time.

Another Kerala player, Justin Stephen, who joined Chirag United from Mahindra United at the start of the season sustained an injury during the match. Justin, who started the match for the eventual champions, suffers an ankle injury and will be out of action for at least one month.
