The Star of Kerala in the opening match of the 63rd Santosh Trophy scoring a couple of goals in quick succession was Chandni FC’s striker KP Zubair.
KP Zubair was born at Kottakal, Malapuram district of Kerala on 5th May, 1979. He went for his primary education at IHS, Parapoor.
Zubair made his first footstep into the Kerala football through BBC Sports Club based at Malapuram. Later he joined another local club Vasco Club of Malapuram.
Zubair joined one of the oldest and famous football clubs in India, the Mohammedan Sporting Club of Kolkata. It was in 2005 that Zubair was offered a contract by the Kolkata club.
He made his Santosh Trophy debut for Kerala in the most stylish fashion by scoring a brace against Chandigarh in the Cluster I match held at the Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore – the same ground where Kerala under the captaincy of VP Sathyan regained the Santhosh Trophy in 1992 after a gap of 19 years..
Speaking to footballkerala.com, the striker shared his joy in scoring for Kerala and was very much pleased with himself for the performance. Zubair scored both the goals in the same fashion as he headed the ball perfectly in from crosses on both the occasions.
He also said that he will try his level best to continue his good performance for Kerala and take the team as far as possible in the Santosh Trophy 2009. Zubair dreams of playing good football and becoming a footballer who will be remembered by fans for a long time.
