Kerala girls were defeated 5-1 by Jharkand in their opening cluster match at 8th Junior Girls National Football Tournament at Cuttack, Orissa
Jharkhand had no problems in defeating Kerala 5-1 in the ongoing 8th Junior Girls National Football Championship played at Sathyabrata Stadium, Cuttack, Orissa on Wednesday afternoon.
Jharkhand started the game on an attacking note as they found the opening net in the 6th minute through Teresina Soren. As the game progressed Teresina scored her brace in the 20th minute as Jharkhand took a 2-0 lead.
Kerala bounced back in the 34th minute as Priyamol utilized the opportunity well to score the only goal for the Southern outfit as the match entered into the lemon break with Jharkhand leading 2-1.
The second half was completely dominated by Jharkhand as they kept on attacking and Nagi Mardi extended the lead in the 57th minute. Five minutes later Anokhi Arlena Marandi found the back of the net and Shabanam Kumari sealed the fate of the game in his team’s favour as she scored in the 72nd minute to help Jharkhand win 5-1.
In the other match of the day Assam routed Himachal 17-0. Dayabat Singha scored seven goals while, RanjuMani Brahma, Poornima Das and Mithali scored two goals each. Nikhila Bhumuj and Rajashri Karmakar scored a goal each in the victors cause.
Karnataka, Pondicherry and Gujarat withdrew from the tournament which started yesterday.
Kerala girls squad for the National Junior Women’s Football Championship is lead by C Jibisha from Thiruvananthapuram. The team is trained by Amrita Aravind. 19 girls will represent Kerala in the event:
