KSEB slaughtered SASC Waynad mercilessly 8-0 to get into the quarterfinals of 34th Kerala State Club Football Championships at Thrissur Corporation Stadium. The lead butcher was striker Dhanesh M with a hatrick
Wounded from the narrow loss in the recently concluded Navy Cup against Viva Kerala, KSEB showed no mercy to their opponents SASC Wayanad. The team consisting the likes of Noushad Pari, Abdul Noushad, Mohammed Rasi, Nelson and Anil Kumar, proved too much for SASC. They dominated the Wayanad boys in every department, piercing through their defence time after time and punishing them for every mistake.
SASC came into the pre-quarters by defeating BASCO Malapuram in a penalty shootout yesterday. Facing a strong side of this class the very next day next day was always an uphill task. And, the result was not surprising.
KSEB started the game with Dhanesh and mean-machine Noushad Pari in front, Muhammed Rasi played just behind them Ranjith and Nowshad KV were on wings. Anil Kumar was resting on the bench as he has been carrying a groin injury from the last tournament.
First shot came from Noushad Pari in the 7th minute when he blasted a long ranger from 20yards dipping to the bottom right corner which was kept out brilliantly by the goalkeeper.
SASC got their first chance when Sajith KS gave a scare with a flick to KSEB post, the ball bouncing with a spin was well parried away by Nelson diving to his left.
KSEB opened the scoring in 15th minute when Donel Kenny headed in a cross from the left corner. Dhanesh doubled the scoreline in 23rd minute when Rasi let him free with a fabulous through ball splitting the central defence.
Dhanesh got another chance in 30th minute, but he missed the post from a close range. Two minutes later another similar cross from the left, Dhanesh dived in to head the ball, but his effort from the close range went out kissing the outside of the post.
A goal was coming, and it just took another minute. In 34th minute, another ball from Rasi to Dhanesh, this time chipped through, Dhanesh onto it with brisk pace finished off with a cool head.
With just 35 minutes into the game, KSEB leading 3-0 went for a change. They took out Renjith R who didnt look completely fit, and brought in defender Saneesh Raj at left back position, moving Vinod S up to left wing.
Three goals down, SASC put everyone into their half with more than 6 players in the box, there was no way they could lead an attack.
KSEB won a freekick in 37th minute. Noushad Pari produced a delightful volley of the freekick. The ball flew just wide of the top bar.
In the 41st minute, Rasi played a ball to Pari who was facing away from the post, cushioned it to Nowshad, who stuck it to the bottom corner of far post to give a solid 4-0 lead at halftime.
SASC was demoralised and worn out. In the second half, they had no solid plans and never looked dangerous at any moment in the game. The match was confined to one half and KSEB goalkeeper Nelson being tested only once in the whole half.
Dhanesh added another goal to his tally in the 58th minute completing a hat-trick. His speed and finishes had no answers to from the rivals.
KSEB held major possession from thereon. Muhammad Rasi was taken off in 63rd minute and was replaced by striker Sumesh AM. Rasi, who is Indian international Mohammed Rafi's brother was instrumental in four of three of the four goals scored in the first half.
Sumesh made his presence felt in the game immediately scoring two quick goals in a span of 2 minutes. The tall striker showed good pace and control to put the ball past the rival keeper. He ran in to collect a 1-2 pass back from Kenny and finished it off to the bottom near post in the first one, and the similar move, through the legs of the rival keeper in the second.
7-0 in 75 minutes was a lot more than expected. KSEB virtually killed the game and everyone was hoping that the match ends soon.
The very next minute SASC striker Shajeer M forced a save from Nelson against run of the play. A rare move which produced a few applause from the crowd. Ashraf and Sajith KS worked hard for SASC but there weren't any results to show.
Substitute Ramesh scored in the 81st minute to end the game 8-0.
KSEB will now face Josco FC who beat AFC Pathanamthitta 3-0 earlier in the quarterfinals of the tournament on 3rd Dec.
