HAL Bangalore defeated Vasco Sports Club Goa 2-1 to win Malayala Manorama Gold Cup All-India Football Tournament at Seethi Haji floodlight stadium, Edavanna Malappuram.
It was Vasco who took the lead in 24th minute when Prashanth Chakrabarthy successfully converted a penalty kick awarded to them for a tackle from behind on striker Koko Sakibo by Naveen Babu. of HAL.
HAL equalized through striker Rajendra Prasad at 40th minute when Xavier Vijayakumar. The equiliser lifted the team as they pushed their lines up and in search of the winner and they were duly rewarded when Fridrick Okwagbe found the net in later stages of the game.
The trophy was distributed by Sri,A.P.Anil Kumar,MLA, in the presence of Sri.K. Aboobacker (resident editor of Malayala Manorama, Kozhikode) and K.P Sunny (Secretary, Kerala Football Association).The best player of the tournament is awarded to Mr. Xavier Vijayakumar of HAL Bangalore.
