Viva Kerala aren’t having a great time in the I-League as they have only eight points to show from the ten games they have played. The southern outfit, who got promoted from the second division, are struggling to get three points as they have managed to win only twice so far
Coach A.M.Sreedharan has several issues to contend with and he points that of them, two are of prime importance.
“When you win, the credit is generally taken by the striker who scores and when you lose the blame automatically comes on the goalkeeper for conceding. We aren’t scoring enough goals.
“We have a good goalkeeper (Shahinlal) but he is inexperienced. He has the potential but at times, loses his concentration.
“We should have recruited a very good striker and a goalkeeper. Our fault remains that we didn’t get them,” said coach Sreedharan.
In the last game against Pune FC at home, the scoreline ended 3-0 in favour of the visitors and Sreedharan believes that the timings of the goals was very crucial.
“Sometimes you concede unexpected goals. They (Pune FC) didn’t play very good in the first half as we were dominating. The second goal early on in the second half demoralized our team.
“Having said this, I believe we have the potential to do better,” said the experienced coach.
Viva Kerala next face Air India, who are on a similar position with eight points, and Sreedharan states that it is a “must win” tie for his side given that they are playing at home.
“It’s a do-or-die situation for us. If we don’t win against teams who are on equal level with us, then survival is difficult,” concluded Sreedharan.
