Shillong Lajong FC confirmed their semi-finals berth edging past Pune F.C by a solitary goal in the last group B league match played at the Jawahar Stadium, Kannur here on Saturday.
The all important goal was scored by the Lajong’s Nepalese striker Anil Gurung in the 28th minute.
Shillong finished second in the group B accumulating four points from three matches, while Pune F.C could only managed to pocket one point from as many matches. East Bengal were thrown out of the contention for a place in the last four with Shillong pocketing all the three vital points as the Kolkata giants garnered only three points.
Chirag United have already made it to the semi-finals emerging topper from Group B with six points and will take on Mohammedan Sporting in the first semi-final on Sunday, while Lajong will face Group A winners Viva Kerala in the second semi-final on February 22.
