I league Second Division: Golden Threads defeat SBT

In the opening match of the I-League 2 South zone qualifiers, Golden Threads FC from Ernakulam pulled off a big upset against one of the strong favourites State Bank of Travancore at Bengaluru.

SBT took the lead early in the first half as Rakesh found the back of the net in the 20th minute. The slenderest of the leads lasted only for quarter of an hour. Golden Threads striker Onami scored from close range to make it all level at the lime break.

Second half began with good attacking play by the inexperienced Golden Threads line up and they needed not much time to break the SBT defense again. This time it was Sanjay Vennara ten minutes into the second half.

Golden Threads will be pumped up for the rest of the tournament after the win while the Bank men have a lot to do if they are to progress further in the second division.
