Sesa Football Academy (Goa) beat New Delhi Heroes (Delhi) 4-2 in the ONGC 2nd division league football match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi.
In another match, Simla Youngs overcame Indian National Club by a solitary goal scored in the 64th minute by Ugochukwu.
The Goan team took the lead in the 10th minute when captain Marcus Mascarenhas scored from a cross from the right. Jaiganesh Goltekar increased the lead in the 40th minute when he scored from a melee.
The ND Heroes' plight increased in the 46th minute when Inacio Colaco netted the third goal for Sesa. Any chance of coming back into the game for Heroes was negated when Israil Gurung made it 4-0 in the 85th minute.
The only consolation for the Heroes was Babatunde Oladele's goal in the last minute of injury time.
Sesa deserved the victory as it made some good moves consistently and its players did not miss the opportunities. The Delhi team, in comparison, fumbled in the box.
HASC held
At Bangalore, local challenger HASC dropped crucial points with a 1-1 draw against Malabar United even as pre-tournament favourite State Bank of Travancore (SBT) finally snatched its first win in three matches with a 74th-minute match-winner against Chandni FC in the ONGC Second Division Group A I-league action at the Football Stadium here on Monday.
HASC's coach-cum-manager M. Muralidharan had talked of the home advantage prior to the league but sadly there was nothing to speak of in the dismal showing.
The frontline looked toothless with Nigerian Fredrick Okwagbe, despite getting the equaliser, lacking punch and purpose while Xavier Vijaykumar playing a withdrawn position was unable to provide the finish.
The backline too looked listless and failed to move up and bolster the attack.
Malabar United, coached by veteran N.M. Najeeb, strung a few pleasing moves, especially down the left, but just did not convert the chances.
The results:
At New Delhi:
SESA FA 4 (Marcus Mascarenhas, Jaiganesh Goltekar, Inacio Colaco, Israil Gurung) bt ND Heroes 1 (Babatunde Oladele).
Simla Youngs 1 (Ugochukwu) bt Indian National Club 0.
At Bangalore: HASC 1 (Fredrick Okwagbe) drew with Malabar United 1 (Jacken Sebastian); SBT 1 (Mohammed Aslam) bt Chandni FC 0 .
