The Government of Kerala has decided to conduct an all-Kerala football tournament as part of the renowned Grand Kerala Shopping Festival from this year onwards.
The tournament which will be held at Kozhikode will feature eight of the best teams in Kerala. The State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Titanium XI, Central Excise, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Malabar United FC have confirmed their participation in the event.
The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) is an initiative of the Government of Kerala and the GKSF Version 4 is to be held from December 1, 2010 to January 15, 2011. The shopping festival is held annually from the year 2007 with an objective to make Kerala an international shopping destination.
Elamaram Kareem, the Minister for Industries of Kerala, told the media that the football tournament is planned to increase the festive spirit felt all over Kerala during the shopping festival. Kareem also expressed his plans to hold a friendly match between Malayalam film stars during the GKSF Football Tournament.
A meeting to discuss the conduct of the tournament will be held at the Conference Hall of the Kozhikode Collectorate on November 6, 2010.
The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival Football Tournament will be held from December 10 to 17 at Kozhikode and the winner will be awarded the GKSF ever-rolling trophy.
