The Indian national women team emerged the winners of the first ever South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship for women national teams. The women's team edged past Nepal in a tightly contested final at the Cox's Bazar Stadium in Bangladesh.
After a goalless first half, the Indian team took the lead in the 65th minute through midfielder Sasmitha Mallick. Sasmitha's goal was the lone goal of the final and after defeating their oppositions without much of a challenge, India lifted the first SAFF Women's Football Championship in style.
India's forward player Balla Devi was declared the Best Player of the Tournament.
