In the zonal final of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge (MYFC) held at the EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode, St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School overcame Don Bosco School, Vaduthala by a lone goal to book their place in the All India tournament that will be held at Bengaluru in April 2011.
The goal was scored in the 24th minute of the game by St. Joseph's midfielder Lasim. The school from Calicut also won a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 while the runner ups from Ernakulam bagged Rs. 20,000 along with some cool Mahindra Youth Football Challenge football kits. St. Joseph's HSS forward Leon Augustine was chosen the best player of the tournament.
The players of both the teams, St. Joseph's HSS and Don Bosco School, will receive a four day training by youth coaches from the Celtic Foootball Club, Scotland - one of the oldest football clubs in the world. A few players selected from the all India tourney also stands a chance to travel to the Scottish club's facilities for training.Image not recovered
The Kerala leg of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge was conducted by Pro Cam International in association with the Kerala Football Association (KFA). 28 school teams from the northern Kerala and 16 from the southern region participated in the preliminaries held at Kozhikode and Kochi receptively.
