Sporting Kansas City, formerly known as Kansas City Wizards has released Indian International striker Sunil Chhetri from the team for 2011.
Chhetri joined the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit in March, 2010 from Dempo SC, becoming the third Indian footballer to play for a foreign club. "Sporting Kansas City did not pick up Sunil Chhetri's option for 2011," Sporting Kansas City vice-president Rob Thomson said in a press conference.
During his time at Kansas, Chhetri played only a single match which was against the Colorado Rapids in a 2-1 defeat in Lamer Hunt Open Cup. He started the match for the team, but was substituted at half time. Sunil also featured in a friendly match against Manchester United coming on in the second half as a substitute and seeing his team beat United 2-1.
It was reported a few weeks back that A-League side Perth Glory was interested to sign the striker. We are keeping our fingers crossed on that one.
