I-League 2: Day 1 - Kerala teams disappoint

Three Kerala clubs - Chandni FC, Eagles FC and Golden Threads - were in action on the first day of the I-League second division 2010-11. All three teams failed to produce the results they were hoping for, after getting beaten by the opposition fair and square.

Golden Threads and Chandni FC were thrashed by 3-1 by NISA, Manipur and  6-0 by Vasco Sports Club respectively. Meanwhile, it was only the debutantes Eagles FC who showed some resistance before going down to a lone goal in the 75th minute by Stanley Cyprian of Techno Aryan FC.

Golden Threads, playing at Guwahati, Assam in a tough Group A faced NISA and were down by one goal as early as the sixth minute when L Nabachandra scored the first of his two goals in the game. The striker again found the net in the 21st minute, while Sanju Vennara returned a goal for Golden Threads in the second half. But, NISA restored their two goal lead with a striek from N Rakesh. Newly launched United Sikkim FC could only manage a draw against Langsing SC as Indian international NS Manju scored twice for the Sikkim outfit.

In the Group C at Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Chandni FC were thrashed by Vasco SC by half a dozen goal. Joy Ferrao scored a brace for the Goans while Koko Sakibu, Joel Siqueira, Julius Akepele and Christopher Borges also were on the score sheet. In the other match in the group, Techno Aryan edged past Eagles FC 1-0 to begin their campaign in style.
