Pathanamthitta emerged as the champions of the 16th Kerala state senior women's football championship which was held at the Azad Ground, Nilambur by the Kerala Football Association (KFA). The southern district defeated Malappuram 2-1 who were looking for their third straight crown in the state championship.
Malappuram went ahead as early as the third minute through a goal from Ashwini K, but Pathanamthitta found the equalizer in the 12th minute, thanks to Angel who found the back of the net. Pathanamthitta then went on to take the lead in the 29th minute. The winning goal was scored by their striker Dhanya.
Meanwhile, in the loser's final, Kannur defeated Wayanad and hence finished at the third position in the tournament.
Malappuram's captain K Reshmi was chosen as the best player of the 16th edition of women's tournament, while Kannur's Lima Johnson bagged the best goalkeeper award. KMA Mather, the President of KFA gave away the prizes.
