Chirag United Kerala suffered their fifth straight defeat in the I-League 2011-12 season as they went down to Sporting Clube de Goa in a sixth round encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Saturday. James Moga and Victorino Fernandez scored for the Goans in their 2-0 home victory.
The damage was done in the first half itself as Moga, the South Sudanese striker who is now the top goal scorer in the league, opened the account in the eleventh minute of the game. Victorino who progressed down the wing turned the ball into Moga who produced a sublime finish to find the first goal of the afternoon.
The lead was doubled by Victorino Fernandez in the 30th minute and that settled the score. The goal was again by a combined effort from Moga and Victorino, but this time it was Moga who was the provider and Victorino the goal getter.
Even though starting with Anil Kumar PK who returned to his former employers from Dempo SC, Chirag Kerala couldn't hit the back of the net despite trying hard to return something in the remaining period of the play.
Sporting leaped to the second spot in the league table with 12 points, just second to Dempo SC who have won all their matches so far. Chirag Kerala are still with the three points they earned in their first match against HAL and are desperately in need of some goals to save their season.
Chirag will now travel to Kolkata to face Pailan Arrows on the 27th December, 2011.
