Shillong Lajong FC scored a solitary first half goal to defeat Chirag United Kerala FC in the 12th round of the I-League 2011-12 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Guwahati. The defeat leaves Chirag Kerala with just 8 points from 12 matches at the twelfth position in the points table.
It was the home side that produced the first opportunity to score as P Lalhimthara failed to capitalize on a good cross from Christopher. The striker was shortly taken off the pitch after twisting his ankle. Chirag Kerala also produced several chances infront of the goal, but lack of finishing let them down once again.
The tides turned as Chirag conceded a penalty in the 30th minute, as James Gbilee was brought down in the box by Chirag defense and Christopher gave his side the lead from the penalty spot. Chirag also had a penalty shout soon after going down, but the referee thought otherwise.
The win propels Lajong to the ninth spot with 16 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Chirag Kerala will now face Mumbai FC in the Round 13 at Mumbai on January 4, 2012.
