Josco FC upset I-League Second Division team Titanium 1-0 in the opening match of Malayala Manorama Gold Cup All-India Football Tournament at Seethi Haji Football Ground, Edavanna Malappuram.
The match played under floodlight drew a good crowd filling up the gallery that has a capacity of 10,000 and the lush green surface provided a good platform for smooth play.
Josco took the advantage in the 35th minute of first half when Titanium goalkeeper Joby Joseph failed to hold on to Stephen Lijo's shot to which Nigerian striker Onei latched on quickly and tapped into the empty net with ease.
The match was evenly contested but Titanium was denied victory by some disciplined Josco defence in second half.
Josco FC will meet Malabar United tomorrow in their next match for a place in Group A.
