I-League 2: Sanjay brace salvages a point for Golden Threads

Sanjay Vennara once again became the golden star for Golden Threads FC as he scored a brace to level the scores for his team against the home favourites BEML Bangalore.

Prakash RC broke Golden Threads’ plans for the day as he scored for BEML just three minutes after the kick off. BEML’s lead lasted for only ten minutes as Sanjay Vennara produced a diving header of Abhijith’s cross in the 13th minute. The header from Sanjay landed in the back of the net.

The home team pushed bodies forward to regain the lead. 33rd minute of the play saw BEML forward Frederick’s header saved of the line by the Golden Threads defenders. In the 39th minute, Golden Threads custodian pulled off a one-on-one save to save the day for the Cochin club.

It was the Kerala team’s turn to attack as the opposition keeper Raja slided and kicked the ball away from the legs of substitute Ashbai. As a result, the score line remained 1-1 at the half time.

Second half began with a series of attacks from Golden Threads. In the 47th minute, Sanjay mishit from a promising position and a couple of minutes later, Ashbai shot over the crossbar.

Golden Threads players forgot to defend the ball as BEML again took a surprise lead over them through Don Bosco in the 56th minute. In the 72nd minute, BEML’s midfielder Tiken Singh’s shot flew inches past the post.

The away team again came back from behind to equalise as Sanjay’s volley rocketed in to the bottom corner of the goal. It was the striker’s second goal of the day and third of this season’s second division.

Golden Threads had an opportunity to grab all 3 points from the tiein the 78th minute as they were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty box for an intentional handball. BEML keeper Raja came for the rescue of his team and the score remained 2 goals each for the evening.

Golden Threads now has 4 points from two matches while BEML picked up their first points of the tournament.
