Mohammed Rafi nominated for Manorama Newsmaker 2010 award

Indian super striker Mohammed Rafi is yet again in the spotlight as the man from Trikaripur in Kasargod district of Kerala is one among the eight nominees for the Idea Cellular - Manorama News Newsmaker 2010.

Rafi is one among the eight popular personalities from Kerala who are nominated for the Idea Cellular - Manorama News Newsmaker award. Rafi has seen a quick rise in his fortune after the player was in red hot form for his former club Mahindra United in the last season and was called for the national football team's coaching camp for Asian Cup 2011. The Kerala player also signed a deal with Goan club Churchill Brothers which earns him a whooping Rs. 1 crore each season.

Other personalities who were nominated in the first round are renowned writer Arundhati Roy, politician KM Mani, Jnanpith award winner ONV Kurup, Asian Games 2010 Gold medalist Preeja Sreedharan, Malayalam film industry's young superstar Prithviraj, Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor and Kerala's Minister of Finance Thomas Isaac.

Four nominees will be shortlisted for the final round based on viewers' voting. The voting will close on December 4, 2010. Academy Award winning sound mixer Resul Pookutty was the recipient of the award in 2009.
