Christ College, Irinjalakuda defeated University College, Trivandrum 2-1 to regain the coveted Mar Thoma Trophy in the final held at the Mar Thoma College ground, Thiruvalla on Tuesday.
Christ College took the lead through Nikhil in the fifth minute of the game, and doubled their advantage with a goal from Sreejith fifteen minutes later. The only game for University College was scored by Rajesh early in the second half.
Earlier, University College had defeated Nirmala College, Muvatuppuzha 1-0 in the semi final while Christ College defeated Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta by the same score.
Christ College's Vineeth was adjudged the best player of the tournament while Peter (University College) became the best defender and Aneesh (Catholicate College) the best goal keeper of the tournament.
The prizes were given away by Mariamma Koshy, the interim President of Hockey India (HI). Principal of Mar Thoma College, Prof. Kurian John, Dr. Reginald Varghese and Dr.MJ Nigi also attended the presentation.
