Thrissur and Kozhikode entered the semi finals of the Kerala State Sub-junior Football Championships 2011 held at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, Kannur. Thrissur defeated Kasargod while Kozhikode overcame Idukki in the quarter finals held on Thursday.
Thrissur scored four goals without any return against the northern district of Kasargod. Anandu opened the scoring for Thrissur in the fourth minute and the lead was doubled before half time by Arun Suresh. Arun again scored to make it 3-0 in the second half and Jithin rounded it off with the fourth.
Kzohikode, playing their first game in this year's tournament, also ran out winners against Idukki with the same scoreline. Ghani Ahamed Nizam opened the floodgates for Kozhikode in the fifth minute. Lazim Ali made it 2-0 in the 37th minute scoring from a free kick. He found his second goal in the 57th minute from the penalty spot. Anchal R Babu scored the fourth goal for Kozhikode taking them into the semi finals of the tournament.
In a cracking contest, defending champions Thiruvananthapuram will face traditional super power Malappuram in a quarter final while Ernakulam takes on Pathanamthitta.
