The semi finalists of the Land Links 37th Kerala State Club Championship 2012 which began at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Palakkad on March 25, 2012 has been decided. 24 clubs from Kerala who are fighting for the Malayala Manorama Trophy has been shortlisted to four namely Golden Threads FC, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), BASCO (Malappuram) and the Kerala Police.
In the last quarter final matches played on Tuesday, a 10 man Golden Threads defeated their fellow I-League second division representatives Quartz FC (Kozhikode) 2-1 in a close encounter. The Cochin Premier League went two goals ahead 30 minutes into the game, thanks to goals from their foreign striker Chimezie.
The second half saw Golden’s defender BK Anagh, a Kerala Santosh Trophy probable, shown second yellow for handling the ball. Quartz made use of the mathematical advantage and scored in the 78th minute through Pedro, but failed to find the equalizer to force a tie breaker, thus enabling Golden Threads to progress into the semi final.
In the other quarter final match on Tuesday, a reinvented Kerala Police team nicked past State Bank of Travancore (SBT) 4-2 in penalty shootouts. The match remained 1-1 after 90 minutes as as Usman opened scoring for SBT in the 5th minute and Rahul hit back for the Police side in the 44th. Kerala Police will now face Golden Threads in the second semi final.
In the first semi final, BASCO will come up against KSEB on Wednesday.
