Golden Threads crowned Kerala club champions

Golden Threads FC became the new club football champions of Kerala as they nicked past Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) off a tie breaker in a closely contested match of the Land Links 37th Kerala State Club Football Championship for Malayala Manorama Trophy which was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Palakkad on Saturday.

The match remained goalless after 90 minutes of regulation time between the I-League second division side and the KSEB team, which forced the matter into the penalty shoot outs. The tie breaker in itself couldn’t break the tie easily as Golden Threads defeated KSEB 11-12 in the shoot outs.

Earlier in the semi finals, Golden Threads had defeated the Kerala Police team in a similar fashion in tie breaker. Meanwhile, KSEB had defeated Malappuram district league champions BASCO to qualify for the finals.

Josco FC were the reigning champions of the tournament for the last couple of years.
