Travancore Titanium progressed into the semi finals of the 9th SBT GV Raja Football Tournament 2012 unconvincingly as they held on to a 3-2 win over CRPF. Meanwhile in the early kick off, Indian Navy who were thrashed by SBT 6-0 the day before, did the same to South Eastern Railways with a scoreline reading 5-0.

Indian Navy dominated South Eastern Railways to register a 5-0 win over them in Group A of the 9th SBT GV Raja All-India Football Tournament 2012 at the University Stadium, Trivandrum. Riyadh B (6′), P Suresh Babu (25′), Pawandeep Singh (58′), Wajid Sheikh (71′) and Ajay Kumar (87′) scored the goals for the winning team.

Navy had a blistering start to the match as their striker Riyadh B managed to guide a header into the goal from a tight angle after their captain Shaji A D’silva found him with a cross from the right of the field in the 6th minute. In the 25th minute, Shaji again turned provider as he played a through ball to P Suresh Babu who got into the box and scored past Railways keeper K Kujur.

Teams dispersed for half time with scoreline at 2-0. After the break, substitutes Pawadeep Singh and Wajid Sheikh combined to find Navy’s third as Pawandeep scored from Wajid’s cross in the 58th minute. It was Wajid’s turn to score in the 71st minute as he scored from a cross by CT Sajith from the right.

South Eastern Railways came close to scoring on two occasions in the 78th and 85th minutes. But both the shots hit the crossbar and Navy defenders managed to clear the ball out of danger. But, there was still time left for a 5th goal as Pawandeep Singh fed Ajay Kumar to seal a comprehensive win for Indian Navy in the 87th minute,

Indian Navy are now 2nd in Group A with 3 points. SBT top the group with 6 points from 2 matches.

Titanium became the first team to progress into the semi finals of the 9th SBT GV Raja Football Tournament 2012 as they defeated CRPF 3-2 in a tight encounter at the University Stadium, Trivandrum. It looked like CRPF would run out with a draw in the later stages of the game, but goals from Aneesh (3′), Antony (37′) and Tommy Antony (45′) did enough for the local side. Varinder (50′) and Amumacha Singh (73′) scored consolation goals for the Policemen.

Titanium dominated the early stages of the first period, and they were rewarded with a goal in the 3rd minute of the game that came from a long ranger from midfielder Aneesh which was deflected of a CRPF defender before getting home.

The local boys doubled the lead through Antoy in the 37th minute as he took control of a rebound from a Vinod Kumar shot and slashed the ball into the goal. Titanium were gifted a third goal before the half time as CRPF keeper SD Shyam misjudged the flight of a header from Tommy Antony and the ball rolled its way into the goal, keeper watching.

But, the second half was a completely different ball game with CRPF in total control of possession and creating several chances on goal. Just 5 minutes into the game, they returned a goal through a Varinder Singh volley from outside the penalty box.

Amumacha Sigh made it 3-2 in the 73rd minute as he headed the ball off a corner kick. 5 minutes later, Varinder Singh hit the woodwork from a long ranger. The comeback was almost perfect as CRPF were awarded a penalty in the injury time of the second half, but the spot kick taken by Jinto Boro was saved by Titanium keeper Fernandez.
