The Kozhikode district under-14 football team defeated Malappuram 2-0 in the finals to lift the 39th Kerala State Sub-junior Football Championship 2012 at the St. Michael’s College Ground, Cherthala on Wednesday.
After a goalless first half in the final, Adhil Ahammed gave the lead to Kozhikode in teh 55th minute and Nishad doubled the team’s lead later on.This was perfect revenge from Kozhikode’s side as they lost out to Malappuram in last year’s tournament via penalty shoot outs 4-2.
Kozhikode had earlier knocked out Alappuzha 5-4, via the tiebreaker to enter the final of the Kerala State junior football championship, The teams were goalless at the end of 90 minutes. Lasim Ali, Thomas Prira, Roy Rogers, Akshay and Tony Mathew scored for Kozhikode in the shoot out while Jikku Kunjumon, Shameen, Danish and Shabeeb were successful for Alappuzha.
Alappuzha thrashed Thiruvananthapuram 5-0 for the third place in the tournament.
