Kerala Varma College, Thrissur had the better of MES College, Mampad during the penalty shoot outs which made them the winning team of the Calicut University's Inter-zone Football Championship 2009.
In a tight match which was played at the Corporation Stadium, Calicut, Kerala Varma College and MES team cancelled each others goals out in the 90 minutes to take the matches into the tie breakers. In the penalty shoot out, the Thrissur team hailed to victory with a scoreline 9-8.
The final of the tournament, which was originally scheduled for Friday was called off due to terrential rain and lightning in the city. The match was cancelled when MES was leading the game 3-1. Kerala Varma College had gone in front early in the first half, but Malapuram team came back sttrongly and put 3 goals before 45 minutes.
