Viva Kerala Juniors crashed out of the Under-19 Football Tournament for I-League teams as they were thrashed 3-1 by Salgaocar SC today at Goa.
Viva Kerala took the lead in the first half, but were outdone by the Goan side in the second half. Many of the Viva Kerala starting eleven were keeping unwell due to food poisoning and were unable to feature in the last match.
"The overall performance of the team is very good considering we got these results with a newly formed team playing against the academy teams," Viva Kerala coach Bino George told after the match.
The Kerala based club ended the tournament with three draws and a defeat from 4 matches. The team finished third in the preliminaries and hence did not qualify for the final round.

Well Viva Kerala U19 is last in a group of five teams!
Both Viva and Salgaocar have three points. Salgaocar also has a game in hand. However, assuming Salgaocar lose their last match to Dempo, they will finish above Viva by virtue of having beaten Viva (Courtesy: I-League U19 regulations).
Wonder how Bino got it wrong!!! He probably needs to keep track of the league table and the I-League U19 regulations...
All said and done, Viva played remarkably in the first three matches. Probably they should consider having an academy team throughout the season and not a makeshift team for four matches!
I thought it was an I-league requirement to have an u19 team not just assemble some players for the tournament,
