Image not recoveredThe Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) has asked the Kerala Football Association (KFA) to maintain a pool of 25 players for national football championships, like the Santosh Trophy, said KB Ganesh Kumar, Minister for Forest and Sports and the Chairman of KSSC. The newly appointed minister was on a visit to the PT Usha Coaching Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
"A pool of 25 players will be maintained keeping in mind long term prospects, at government’s expense who will take the field regularly and get better coaching and facilities," said Ganesh Kumar. "It will be from this group the final team will be picked," he added. The minister also said that increasing allowances for the players representing the state is under consideration.
The government has also decided to start canteens at various hostels of the Kerala State Sports Council, in association with the Kudumbasree. At present, the government only provides money for the food to hostellers.
The sports minister also said that any member associations of the Sports Council, that fails to conduct at least three tournaments per year will be banned from the council. TP Dasan, President of KSSC and Dr. Mohammed Ashraf, the Secretary accompanied the minister in his visit.

Who are these guys? They seem completely out of touch. Someone please tell them about the I-league. If they want to do something that will improve Kerala football in the long term they must improve the standard of coaching and increase the level of participation at youth level. The suggestions in the article are welcome but what is the point if these guys are not playing regular matches - sort out a competitive state league. Have district leagues that last more than a month.

This is not a good idea to keep only a small pool of players this makes the football stagnant in our country. Instead improve infrastructure by creating 2-3 good football stadium, make sure we have a consistent league in place. We will be again in lime light if we do so.
please start more football schools...n built more good stadiums...n set up state league football...n organise inter school tournements frequently...plz imprv d stndrd f futbal in kerala.. n regain d lost glory...

25 Players should come from 25000 Junior and sub junior players through a sports structure starting from primary school level sports system.
Think about infrastructure only after setting up sports structure in the school level covering all the Private and Government schools.
With in 15 years time the state can have European standard players. Fund and sponsorship will flow.
