Kovalam Football Club, on August 1, 2011, formally launched their football academy in a function held at the Kovalam Animation Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. The club that was formed three years ago to nurture the talents in the village of Kovalam and surrounding areas finished third in their debut season in the Thiruvananthapuram Super Division.
The function saw 14 new players added to the academy. Football kits were distributed to the children by Raman Patrick Sisupalan, the vice-chairman of Kovalam FC and former Viva Kerala player. Kovalam FC head coach Ebin Rose along with Santosh Trophy player Bonafice will train the footballers at the academy.
Jameela Prakash, the Member of the Legislative Assembly, inaugurated the launch function which was presided over by George Mercier, the chief patron of the Kerala Football Association (KFA). FIFA referee Ratish briefed the trainees about the rules of football, while Dr. Sunil spoke about general fitness.
